Volunteering within our Community

Fareshare

Innovate. Collaborate. Grow. Our three core values here at Destination Lincolnshire. Ones we are truly passionate about. Which is why, when our Business Manager, Jayne, floated the idea of volunteering within our community, we jumped at the chance.

Charity collaboration, in this instance with FareShare Midlands, is something which sits so well with our principles. Corporate social responsibility is something that is hugely important, and we hope our efforts will work to further raise the profile of FareShare somewhat too.

We kicked our partnership off this week (June 6th, 2022) with Emily Bennett and Jayne herself heading to FareShare for the morning. Starting the day off with some recycling, then sorting through a mountain of parsnips - about 830 kilos of them in fact!

Chatting while they worked, Jayne and Emily not only spent the morning helping with FareShare's day-to-day operations but getting to know each other better too. Not only contributing to our community but building our team dynamic too.

About FareShare Midlands:

FareShare Midlands works to source and redistribute good quality, in-date surplus food which would otherwise go to waste – turning an environmental problem into a social solution which is just amazing!

The food arrives into the warehouse, it is sorted and stored by staff and volunteers and then the food is redistributed to more than 550 charities and community groups across the Midlands – these include community centres, homeless shelters, children’s breakfast/school clubs and community shops. The food is used either for food parcels or turned into meals for vulnerable people. Last year enough food was delivered to create up to 16 million meals!

Lincolnshire Co-op is one of their main partners in Lincolnshire and they’ve been hugely supportive of the initiative.

We'll each be visiting for around 4 hours per month at FareShare's unit on Vulcan Park – helping to sort food in the warehouse, delivering food to the organisations the charity works with. The team will be buddying up to help where we're required. We'll be collaborating with FareShare for 3 months before looking to work with another local organisation. Any suggestions for us?
