Destination Lincolnshire continues to support local businesses into joining in with events and campaigns through their Boston Visitor Economy Network.

The Boston Visitor Economy Network was formed to support the continuous development of the town as a place to visit, live and work.

Destination Lincolnshire, Boston Borough Council and the fantastic local businesses come together monthly. Together, they share knowledge and shape upcoming destination marketing and campaigns that will attract visitors.

The meetings are arranged and managed by Destination Lincolnshire and our fellow key stakeholder Boston Borough Council plays a crucial role.

One of the biggest events we have supported businesses in the district into joining in with is Discover Boston Weekend. It was held on November 9 and 10, 2024, and the dates for 2025 will be confirmed soon.

Discover Boston Weekend is the perfect opportunity for businesses to showcase themselves to residents and visitors. The campaign is all about encouraging people to explore more of Boston’s heritage, culture and visitor offer.

It is also a great chance for these businesses to work together with key stakeholders to educate and inspire local and regional audiences to engage with, and explore, Boston. The weekend is open to all Boston attractions, retailers and food and drink establishments.

Our Discover Boston website promotes the town with inspirational content. Local businesses can use the website to promote what they do and their events.

Last year, there was a 125% increase in business offers for Discover Boston Weekend compared to 2023.

Other campaigns have included The Original Explorer campaign, which focused on the outdoors, green spaces, nature & wildlife, waterways, walking and cycling.

Businesses within the group had the opportunity to collaborate on this campaign including blogs by Chris Andrews from RSPB, and Jane Keightley from Boston History Tours.

There is also plenty to look forward to in 2025 including Boston Brilliance, which is a two-day architectural projection festival taking place on February 14 and 15, 2025.  The festival will celebrate Boston’s history and heritage by transforming the town into a vibrant canvas with its iconic landmarks lit up in spectacular projections.

Councillor Sarah Sharpe, Boston Borough Council portfolio holder for culture, said: “We are committed to continuing to grow Boston’s flourishing visitor economy, bringing people in to enjoy some of our unique local attractions and events, historical sites, stunning landscapes and fantastic independent hospitality and retail businesses.

“Boston has a fascinating story to tell, and working in collaboration with Destination Lincolnshire and other partners, we are working to help the Borough thrive as a tourist destination, sharing its positive identity and offer and increasing engagement from local businesses for opportunities like the Visitor Economy Network for Discover Boston weekend.

“Working creatively and proactively with Destination Lincolnshire, residents and businesses, I believe this will continue to go from strength to strength, now and into the future, and establish Boston Borough’s position as a wonderful place to visit.”

Destination Lincolnshire’s Senior Relationship Executive Holly Christian said: “Destination Lincolnshire, Boston Borough Council and the fantastic local businesses come together monthly to network, share knowledge, problem solve, and shape upcoming destination marketing campaigns that will attract visitors.

“Stakeholders also share upcoming events and activities that will bring in visitors for operational and forward planning purposes as the network helps the town flourish.”
